Frequently asked Questions

Which medication is allowed prior to surgery?

Generally, all drugs which retard coagulation of the blood or dilute it, such as acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., aspirin, ASA, ASA100 or a combination such as Godamet or Thomapyrin) or Marcumar must be discontinued seven days before surgery. Your surgeon will recommend possible substitutes to carry you over in the interim.

Other drugs for high blood pressure, cardiac rhythm disturbance (arrhythmia), diabetes, asthma, thyroid malfunction, glaucoma, etc., may be taken as usual before surgery.
